The platinum price is set internationally in US dollars per troy ounce on the NYMEX futures exchange and the London Platinum and Palladium Market (LPPM). This price is converted to Euro at the current EUR/USD exchange rate, then divided by 31.1035 grams to get the price per gram.

Why is platinum rarer than gold but sometimes cheaper?

Platinum is genuinely rarer than gold by annual global production (about 190 tonnes of platinum versus over 3,000 tonnes of gold), but its price reacts strongly to industrial demand — especially automotive catalytic converters — which fluctuates with the auto industry cycle, unlike gold's more stable safe-haven demand.
